Bulimia
Bulimia nervosa, usually called simply bulimia or binge and purge disorder, is an eating disorder that affects thousands of college-aged women in America. It also affects about 1 in 10,000 Americans. Bulimia was classified as a distinct disorder by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980. The name was changed to Bulimia Nervosa in 1987.The most common misconception concerning bulimia is that it is simply a mental problem. Many people do not understand that bulimia is a disease that affects both the mind and the body. Over the time the person has the disease it takes an immense toll on both aspects of the individual.
Bulimia affects a variety of different people, but generally the victims will fall tend to fall into certain categories. Females from the ages of 12 to 18 are at the highest risk to develop the disorder. The disease can start as early as elementary school, or much later......
