Poem
How would you feel if you had a child and would not be accepted by his or her grandparents, because they were of an inter-racial ethnic? Even through that he or she is mixed, she feels as if she doesn't belong anywhere. In the section "Grandparents and Legacies: Poems", the poem "Heritage" was most interesting to me because in the future I plan on having a child by my fiancé, who is of a different race than me. Rather or not someone admits that they stereotype, we as a society do stereotype others. In, "Heritage", the writer was effected by her being of an Anglo decent and Native American.
The writer suggests in the first six lines, the woman that is being written about, is someone who resembles her mother from the wrinkles in her face, to her breasts. The writer also mentions that the breasts are white. The woman also, was taught by her mother to bake bread. In lines seven the woman gets her brown eyes from her father. It seems that she only has her brown eyes......
