Racial Relations

My African heritage is very complex because not much can be known about it. In general terms I descend from West Africans slaves brought to this area. The slaves were stripped of their history and thus it is difficult to pinpoint the exact course my family took to get here, but the path can be traced by a short history of slavery in America.
A major portion of my background is African by way of slavery in the colonies and the United States of America. The migration of my ancestors was forced during the slave trade began around the 14th century and slavery. Going back as most records will allow show that "In fact, the first twenty "Negar" slaves had arrived from the West Indies in a Dutch vessel and were sold to the governor and a merchant in Jamestown in late August of 1619, as reported by John Rolfe to John Smith back in London" (Chronology on the History of Slavery).
