1. Einleitung
13. August 1961: In den frühen Morgenstunden beginnt in Berlin der Bau der Mauer. Bewaffnete Grenztruppen reißen das Straßenpflaster auf, errichten Barrikaden und spannen Stacheldraht. Die Mauer war ein Symbol des Kalten Krieges, der die Welt in Ost und West aufteilte. 1989 brachte eine friedliche Revolution den Fall der Mauer, das Ende der DDR und ebnete den Weg zur Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands. Das SED-Regime hatte dem Wunsch der Menschen nach Veränderung und persönlicher Freiheit nichts mehr entgegenzusetzen. Die Integration der neuen und alten Bundesländer war und ist die große Aufgabe für Politik und Bürger in Ost und West. Ob politisch, wirtschaftlich oder soziokulturell - die friedliche Revolution hat Deutschland und sogar die Welt verändert.
