Analysis Of The Poem
The Flea is written by John Donne. A Jacobean poet and preacher and a representative of the metaphysical poets of his time. I guess that's why it is not easy for some poetry readers to understand poems written by metaphysical poets. Even their writing formats seem to differ from those of the ordinary poets like Sylvia Plath, Elizabeth Bishop et Cetera. Though it makes the poem "cool" because of the shocking imagination- metaphysical- beyond physicality.
John Donne is a master of paradox. His works, notable for their realistic and sensual style, include sonnets, love poetry, religious poems. His poetry is noted for its vibrancy of language and immediacy of metaphor, which can be compared with that of his contemporaries.
