This paper will discuss the databases used at The Ronco Group (TRG). It will discuss in what areas these databases are used and what applications use them. The author will propose some improvements that could be used in at least one of these applications.
The Ronco Group primarily uses two types of databases. These are Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL. These are both traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS). The important thing in a RDMS database is the relation. In a book on SQL for beginners Robert Sheldon, speaks to this, "Hierarchical and network databases are found in legacy systemsÂ…the relational model has replaced many of these systems and is the model most extensively implemented by modern database productsÂ…at the core of the model is the relation" (2003, p. 5). The author will attempt to give an example of this with a simple Access database he has made for TRG.
