The idea of the American dream comes from a long history of immigrants coming to the United States. The basic idea of the American dream is that any given immigrant can come to America with nothing at all, and through simply working hard, that person or family can obtain wealth and financial stability with a background and past of poverty. This dream can exist in America because many of our immigrants come from emerging nations and third world countries by an economic standpoint. In many of these countries, freedom and economic prosperity is not as attainable or even possible as it is in America. For this reason, the United States sees immigration from almost every country in the world to some extent, whether for freedom such as religious, economic, or freedom from oppression.
