Shakespeare wrote act 1, scene 7, is to inform the audience about Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's feeling and thoughts about murdering the King. For instance when Macbeth leaves the banquet hall deciding on what he should do he is worried and is having second thoughts on whether to murder Duncan or not. Lady Macbeth comes into the room he entered and manipulates Macbeth into carrying out the murder. When Lady Macbeth says, "When you durst do it, then you were a man." Lady Macbeth is manipulating his mind by belittling him.
Before this scene, we are told that the king Duncan hears good news about the Norway battle. On the way home from battle Macbeth and his best friend Banquo meet three witches who tell Macbeth that he will become king and will also become Thane of Cawdor but they also tell Macbeth he will not have an heir and that Banquo's son Fleance will become Macbeth's successor.
