Same-Sex Marriage

Within the United States a heated debate that dances the fine line between the separation of church and state rages over the controversy of same-sex marriage. Homosexuals come under fire for their attempts to build a family around their own sexual preferences and the unions and bonds formed within them. In fact, some that oppose the marriage of same-sex couples say that the entire institution of marriage and family would collapse if people of the same gender were allowed to marry and have families of their own. However, they argue these points with only their own opinions built from society and that of the church. No actual proof exists that allowing homosexuals to marry and raise children would, in fact, taint the sacredness of the family lifestyle. So why is it, in a land where choice of religion is free and not to be persecuted under the Bill of Rights, the American government clings to the Biblical idea that marriage is only to be between a man and a woman?
