The author said that the shortage of scientist in the nation is due to American science is becoming progressively worst, not enough Americans are choosing to study science so employers want to hire foreign high-tech workers and pay them lower wages. According to the Statistic of Advanced U.S Degrees Going to Foreigners, “foreigners earned a large percentage of the advanced degrees awarded by American universities in 2002 and 2003. More than 50 percent engineering doctorates went to non-Americans, and more than 40 percent of the engineering master’s degrees” (Price, 28).
