His father left his family when Jack was only 10 so he lived with his mother, Flora Wellman, a music teacher and spiritualist. To keep himself alive he went door to door begging living in slums and prisons. This lifestyle gave him a lot of insight into the human class system. London went to the University of California but could only stay for a year because he didn’t have enough money to stay all 4 years.
