The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is set in the 1920’s. A story of disillusioned love of men, women and money. During the rise of the stock market in the aftermath of the war led to a sudden, sustained increase in the national wealth and a newfound materialism, as people began to spend and consume at unprecedented levels. There for the novel will compromise a much larger and less romantic extent of their lives. The problem is the behavior of some patrons, they are all reasons why I often think we have not changed in our day and age.
The 1920’s was a roaring time after World War 1. Our country began to take off for the first time in years. We were finally making money as a whole. Being able to spend our money was a pleasant change from having to save everything during the war. We were finally standing on our own two feet.
