The quote embodies this nation’s former view of immigration and it gives hope for all those who wish to have the American dream. The United States was built by immigrants, many seeking freedom and a new life in a new land. Although immigration at one point is what brought this nation together, it currently stands in the spotlight of heated controversy. United States history contains many periods during which immigration sparked controversy and today is no exception. In 2006 immigration has once again become a hot button social issue for which history can be examined to find the solution.
