Introduction
UCLA’s Student Psychological Services operates under the much larger auspices of the University as a whole. Due to the complexity of the University’s structure, and the distinct purpose of the mental health sub-component, this organizational description and analysis will be limited solely to the department of Student Psychological Services (SPS).

Mission Statement and Goals
According to Rapp & Poertner (1992), “a formal mission statement can help communicate the vision, values and focus of an organization” (p. 282). SPS’s mission statement is reflective of both the academic environment in which it operates, as well as the mental heath community at large.
The mission of SPS in the broadest terms is to promote academic achievement and reduce attrition and impediments to academic success. In carrying out this broad charge, our mission is three-fold and reflects the needs of a rapidly changing campus community: (1) to......
