Behind the Cause
Their have been several different rebellions and uprisings in today’s modern world. One particular organized group called the Zapatistas has captured international interest since its uprising in 1994. In order to fully understand the Zapatista movement, one must understand and acknowledge Emiliano Zapata and the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). After all, the group takes its name from Zapata himself. Some might actually consider Zapata to be the most progressive leader of the revolution. ”La tierra es de quien la trabaja “(’Zapata’Camin-Meyer 135). This statement basically means that the land belongs to those who work on it. Many people would agree that the ideology behind the revolt of Zapata and his peasant revolutionaries is Socialism and Nationalism. The Mexican Revolution was about the fight of the Mexicans' and Indians' to gain freedom, from the people who were 'superior' to them. This struggle is about a group of peasants......
