Abstract
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection has now spread to every country in the world and has infected more than 40 million people worldwide as of the end of 2003. More than 1.1 million people in the United States have been infected with HIV. The scourge of HIV has been particularly devastating in Sub-Saharan Africa. The proportion of adult women among those infected with HIV is increasing. In the Mississippi delta, there are over 4,058 people with HIV/AIDS but only 1,833 people receiving treatments. Overall, in the state of Mississippi there are over 8,540 people living with HIV that are not receiving HIV care. Although services are available, the stigma attached to this disease causes many infected not to access medical care. Most people with HIV are between the ages of 25 & 49.
