The romantic era of poetry began in Western Europe during the late 1900's and reached its height in the mid 1800's. The romantic age of poetry started due to the French Revolution and gained its strength from the industrial revolution taking place in Britain. Romanticism was an age of individualists that seeked formal freedom. The romantics emphasized sensibility, nature and the expresion of feelings freely.
The romantic era was a small but great movement in English literature and affected the whole of Europe and America.
This era emphasized new political ideas like the importance of equality, freedom and liberty. These ideas obtained immense help with the French and American Revolutions that were taking place. The Romantic movement gave the impression of an improvement of mankind. This impression of revolution motivated musicians, artists and poets future of society.
