Autism? What causes this disorder? Many experts and parents believe that autism is caused by environmental toxins. A lot of research has been done to prove this theory. In the U.S. 1 in 150 children are being diagnosed with autism. (Autism Speaks pg. 1). This is a huge epidemic therefore we need to see what is going on in our environment to see how to put on end to this epidemic. In this paper you will see that there is a direct link between our environment and the rise in autism.
Let me first define what Autism is. Autism is a spectrum disorder known as ASD, short for autism spectrum disorder. According to the March of Dimes (2007) “Children with autism have a number of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms include:
• Difficulty interacting with others and making friends.
