Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream
Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a vibrant comedy. However, the fact that the play is a comedy does not suggest it ignores the serious aspects that life entails; such as love. Instead Shakespeare has attributed a tragic element within this comedy in order for him to make the audience laugh and cry as well as think and feel at the same time. This keeps the play humorous as well as light-hearted whilst ensuring too much exposure is not disclosed of the character’s emotions. He has done this through the exploration of themes which are still prevalent in today’s society. These include love and relationships, the power of the sleeping state and male dominance and the objectifying of women. These themes reflect human nature and its complexity, a thematic concern for all audiences across time.
Shakespeare uses love stories in his play but not necessarily for just romance. He uses them to convey a deeper meaning towards love, thus he does not fail to ignore the pain,......
