King Lear Speech
Good Morning ladies and gentlemen to this breath-taking, dramatic and eye-catching new production of King Lear that will show our contemporary viewers how our production will be a modern vision while staying true to the language and themes of Shakespeare. As most of you are aware, our director is not here so as you know I’ll be playing Lear so I’ll discuss with you some productions I have seen and how that will be similar or different to our own version of the play. He specifically told me to talk about Lear in Act 1 Scene 1 as this scene is crucial to our interpretation of Lear and the text as it begins the tragedy unfolding and change of Lear from his hatred feeling towards his daughter to his fondness of her. Lear ‘a man more sinned than sinning’ moves through anger and despair to patience and humility and truth. He realises towards the end that he looked only after himself and not his people ‘O I have ta’en too little care of this’. Lear is blind in the beginning......
