Radiation

Radiation is the energy transmitted by high speed particles and electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic radiation is what we know as visible light, radio, television, and microwaves. Radiation is an invisible force. It can’t be seen, smelled, tasted, or felt, unless the doses are high enough to cause you obvious physical damage, such as burns. Radiation in any dosage has the potential to be dangerous to your health, and it’s important to understand the risks and effects of radiation as its use becomes more and more widespread.

There are four main types of radiation.

Alpha radiation consists of a positively charged particle emitted by radioactive material consisting of the nucleus of a helium atom. This radiation is a dangerous carcinogen when inhaled or ingested because it is able to transfer its energy at short range to damage our body cells. However, Alpha radiation is not very strong.
