What is history? History is defined as the study of the past, focused on human activity and leading up to the present day. It is very important for the lives of our future that we learn our history for “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (Santayana). History is a much argued subject and most historians will not agree with one another. History is based on the perspective way of knowing for in most cases the victor has the right to record the history. Thus it will contain bias and often history is found to be false. For example, many believe that the bible is a direct historical truth, yet some think it is full of metaphors and merely a guide for life and then there are others who believe it is all just make believe. How can you prove any one belief? It occurred in the past and unless we can return to the past we have no way of knowing.
