Anthem Of Doomed Youth
When I read through a book of poetry, all of the poems start to look alike to me and I start to get bored. This poem, however, distinguished itself from the other ones and touched me quite profoundly for it speaks of truths that are still applicable today. Anthem for Doomed Youth, by Wilfred Owen, is a poem that absorbed me and I felt like I was actually on the battlefield and in the sad shires, for it is so realistic. I heard the sounds of the guns and felt sadness for these soldiers. This poem is a powerful poem, with a powerful message.
Wilfred Owen was born in 1893 and died in 1918, as a soldier. His parents received the information about his death the day the armistice was signed. Owen was a soldier during World War one as well as a poet.
Siegfried Sassoon, his friend and mentor, helped him in his poetry and would make slight modifications to it. He was also a big influence on Owen’s writing style and tone. They met while Owen was in the hospital recovering from a wound.......
