1.1 Introduction
Pernec Corporation Berhad (PERNEC) is a Malaysian joint-venture company between Amanah Raya Berhad (Skim Amanah Saham Bumiputra), NEC Corporation (Japan) and Permodalan Nasional Berhad. Its main business activity is to provide Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions to customers in Malaysia and abroad. The company began its operation in 1973 through a joint venture between Pernas Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and the Nippon Electric Company (NEC) of Japan. Its business then was focused on supplying telecommunications equipment to Jabatan Telekom Malaysia (now Telekom Malaysia Berhad).
In 1974, the company commenced the manufacturing of NEC Multiplexing Equipment. In 1981, Permodalan Nasional Berhad invested as the majority shareholder and steered the company towards business expansion. By early 90s, the company has captured a significant market share in Malaysia by supplying telecommunication equipment to telecommunications......
