Iraq War
On the 20th of March 2003, America along with Australian and the United Kingdom (Coalition of the Willing), invaded Iraq. This invasion sparked a widespread debate amongst many about whether or not there were legitimate reasons behind the attack and also questions were asked about the legality of the invasion. They argued that the use of pre-emptive self-defence was not legally justified and also that the use of force by America and the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ without full United Nations authorisation was also not justified under international laws. According to US President George Bush the invasion was necessary and he argued that the further uses of force was authorised with the passing of UN Resolution 678 and 687 have further spurred on the debate.
