Local Controversial Issues

Underage drinking in Odessa, Texas is pretty bad. So I have been told… possibly even seen. In the Odessa American there was a survey for seniors and 51% of seniors reported drinking in the past month. I personally think that is a lot. However, the part that got me was 23% of eighth graders had reported drinking in the past month. That just seems unreal to me.
I personally believe that alcohol is a gateway drug for teens and most adults. Illegal drug use in the United States is a big thing. Everyday you see commercials on T.V. on living your life above the influence. They mostly target marijuana but in the United States it is proven that underage drinking is a much larger problem then illegal drug use. So why don’t we see commercials on underage drinking? As I sit here in my class room typing this paper I look to my right and there is a huge banner that says “Drug-free can B anything I want it to B.” Even in the schools there is more on the illegal use of drugs and nothing......
