The Roman And Han Empires
From almost the very beginning of the Roman Empire, Christianity made an impact, which, in part, led to the downfall of the Empire. Prior to the first century, A.D., the popular belief, in the Empire, was polytheistic. This means a belief in multiple gods, such as Jupiter, Juno, Apollo, Mars, Neptune and Venus. Because Roman policy was to tolerate any other religion that was not subversive, many Jews were accepted as subjects of the Empire, but the Jews considered the polytheistic belief heathen, and rejected it. They had a monotheistic (one god) belief.
But this monotheistic belief quickly gained popularity, among Romans, as a new religion was introduced that followed the teachings of a man, from the Roman province of Judea (now Israel), named Jesus. The new religion was called Christianity because its followers, called Christians, believed Jesus to be the Christ, or Savior. They believed that Jesus was their God, who had come to earth in the form of this man. The Christians......
