Gambling, defined as a bet of valuables (including money) on the outcome of an event or happening, is an increasing activity in the Australian population as well as internationally (Wickwire, Whelan, Meyers & Murray, 2007). Often, due to numerous influences, a recreational gambler becomes a problem gambler and further more a pathological gambler. Although there is no exact point, one may be classified as a problematic gambler when behaviours include an unwarranted obsession with gambling, becoming deceitful to family and friends about amount of gambling as well as ignorance of prior commitments and arrangements (Delfabbro, Lahn & Grabosky, 2006). An estimated 2.15% of adults living in Australia are said to be pathological gamblers as well as a further 5% who have the possibility of being problem gamblers (The Productivity Commission, 1999).
