John Locke

Introduction

John Locke was born in the summer of 1632 in England. Much of Locke’s writing was influenced as a result of living under a tyrant. Locke’s ideals and philosophies are incorporated into his writing and readers tend to think of Locke as a revolutionist. Locke received his education at Oxford University where he found his love for philosophy. After schooling he became an adviser to the Earl of Shaftesbury. Locke’s association with Shaftesbury helped Locke receive many political positions and investment opportunities.
Many agree that John Locke’s philosophies and writings have proved to be monumental influences to the history of America. For example, Locke’s philosophy can be found incorporated into our own Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Obviously, Locke influenced his native country of England while also bringing new ideas and perspective to the American people.
