Can with Skirt

Equipment/Materials
• Can of soda, in this case a can of caffeine-free Pepsi
• Flat table top
• Suction cup skirt, with a half dollar size hole in the center
• 2 fingers (thumb and forefinger)

Procedure
1. Place the can of soda on the table top.
2. Pick up the can with two fingers.
3. Place the hole of the skirt on the top of the can and slide it to the bottom.
4. Put the can back on the table with the skirt also touching the table.
5. Try to pick up the can with two fingers again.

Observations
1. An ordinary can of soda is placed on the table, and it appears to be easy to pick up with two fingers.
2. When the can with the skirt is put on the table, the can cannot be lifted with only two fingers for a couple of tries.
3. The can is about 5 inches high, and about 3 inches across.
4. From where I was sitting, the skirt appeared to have a diameter between 4 and 5 inches.
