Militarization is occurring in all aspects of popular culture. Specifically the computer game Counter Strike has become militarized because of the fact that its style of game play is being used to recruit and train potential soldiers and the military is taking advantage of the popularity of such games and is collaborating with the video game industry to expand itself even further into popular culture contributing to cultural violence. Also as is the case with many combat simulation games they are directly targeting the “hyper masculinity of young males” (Giroux 2004) and this is resulting in more violent behaviour.
Counter Strike is a multiplayer, first person shooter game where you are either a terrorist or a counter terrorist. Each game is split up into rounds and each round has a specific goal for each team.
