Calvin Coolidge

My name is Calvin Coolidge. I was born July 4, 1872. Most people know me for being a president. I graduated from Amherst College with honors. I then entered law school and politics in Northampton, MA. I became councilman in Northampton and then later was governor of Massachusetts, as a republican. I found out I was president while visiting Vermont on August 3, 1923. As president, I demonstrated my determination to preserve the old moral economic precepts along with the material prosperity which many Americans seemed to like. I refused to use economic power to check the growing boom or to improve the depressed condition of agriculture and certain industries. My first message to Congress in December 1923 called for isolation in foreign policy, and for tax cuts, economy, and limited aid to farmers. I became ever more popular in 1924 with my “Coolidge Prosperity”, I then polled more than 54 percent of the popular vote. I believed the nation achieved a state of contentment seldom......
