“‘No great genius has ever been without some divine madness’, proclaimed Aristotle more than two thousand years ago.”(Koh 1) The possibility that there could be a link between creative genius and madness has been in existence since the times of the ancient Greeks. It has been recognized that there was an uncanny and mystifying coincidence between insanity and creativity; that the occurrence of ‘mad geniuses’ throughout history is significant enough to warrant repeated investigations in that area. (Koh 3) However, despite the numerous studies carried out to investigate the existence of a link between genius and madness, there is to date, no clear explanation of a direct relation between the two.
