Utopia is synonymous with the word perfect, and although a perfect society seems easy, it is quite hard to obtain in reality. The Shakers were a religious community that based their utopia on religious beliefs, similar to Leonard Knight who created Salvation Mountain to spread the word of God. Both of these created utopias wanted a world to be able to celebrate and practice their religions, but they did it in different ways. Knight flaunts his Salvation Mountain for all to see and visit while the Shakers were a conservative and old fashioned community. While Knight thought that God forgave your sins no matter what you do, the Shakers tried their best to live a lifestyle without want, sin, or anything that would disgrace God. Although both of these Utopias used different strategies at making their utopia a reality, both for the most part were successful in creating a religiously based society.
