Calorie Labeling
Why shouldn't the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene have the right to require calorie posting in “chain” food service establishments? This is supposed to benefit us at the end anyways. Of course it may hurt the food industry but maybe that will push on a change to reduce all the fats, sugar and sodium in their products thus reducing the calories in our food. If you really don't want to know, technically you don't have to look at it. But it’s definitely good to know how much calories you consume especially if you eat out a lot. It gives us an idea of how much we’re putting in our bodies and it just gives us a better piece to the puzzle. According to Thomas R. Frieden, “New Yorkers get a third or more of their calories away from home. The lack of readily available calorie information in food service establishments makes it easy to consume too many calories.” Consuming all these extra calories can lead to weight gain, “just 100 extra calories each day......
