Anxiety Disorders
This year intro to psych has been one of my favorite courses and there was nothing that interested me more than the disorders. Each on e made me picture a different family member in my head. Even after I had got my A in the course, (and technically didn’t have to come back) I did because these disorders interested me so much. They really hit home. Anxiety disorders stuck out the most.
Anxiety is defined as distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune. It’s a natural reaction to difficult situations. Anxiety becomes a problem or disorder when it becomes excessive and starts to overwhelm you in everyday life, preventing you from activities. There are 5 main types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, phobic disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (Weiten 407). 19% of all people experience some type of anxiety disorder throughout their life (Weiten 407).
