A Rose For Emily
The phenomenon of madness can appear through many different forms. In certain cases, mental illness can be very obvious. In other cases, you may never know that a person is crazy or mad. These people may just appear strange or abnormal in society, but not actually crazy, as in the case of the main character in the short story written by William Faulkner, entitled A Rose for Emily. At the end of the story, the author surprises us by revealing that Emily was actually crazy. In this literary analysis we would like to present our opinions about the causes of her mental breakdown. We will prove our theory by presenting these aspects: how her father’s influence affected her, how her internal conflicts challenged her and how her social status isolated her from the other villagers.
