World Trade Organisation is a global international organisation dealing with the trading rules formed between its member countries. Its main role is to assist the formation, negotiation as well as the conduct of trade agreements signed by its member nations. Australia has been a member of WTO since 1st January 1995. Despite of the fact that Australia has been participating in this huge trading bloc[1] (148 members), Australia has also been signing bilateral free trade agreements (FTA) with countries on its own. Bilateral trade agreement is defined as the trading arrangement formed between two nations with the aim of exchanging goods and services basing on each party’s preferential economic benefits. Is it worthwhile for Australia to create such 1:1 trade agreements with nations striving for further benefits in the existence of this global political governing body-WTO?
