Segregation has always been a big controversy in the United States. An attempt at resolving the problem of inequality in everyday life for “colored people”, was the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance was a literary and intellectual explosion that offered the black culture a new identity in the 1920s and the 1930s. There were numerous amounts of incredible African American authors, poets, and musicians during this time. One of the most important and influential writers of the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes wrote a wide variety of literary pieces that changed the art of literature, including the short story that most related to his life, One Friday Morning.
Originally known as the New Negro Movement, the Harlem Renaissance took place in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City.
