Much can be said of the leadership, power and influence of Ted Kennedy. Not because he is the surviving brother of a revered slain president or of an equally popular Senator also cut down in his prime. His leadership, his power and his influence does not come from his family name, which has been synonymous with these adjectives for almost a century. Rather, the “Lion of the Senate” deserves this recognition for almost forty-six years as a U.S. Senator who vigorously fought for the populist ideals he deeply believed in.
