Story Story

The house is silent. The only things that James can hear are the buttons on his keyboard, and the beating of his heart. There is a dim lamp on in the corner. It casts long shadows over different parts of the room and causes half of James’ face to be light, the other half dark. If there was a clock in the room, the ticking would drill into James’ brain as he tries to concentrate as hard as he can. His fingers are frantic; his chin is lowered as he stares at the computer screen from the tops of his eyes. If someone were to come into the room wearing nothing but a pair of socks, James would not notice. He had one thing on his mind; he had to finish his story.

James is a college student living in the suburbs of Ft. Worth. He attends the local community college where he started directly after high school. James was a “god” in high school. He knew the system, and he knew it well. If there was a crack to slip through, James knew about it. He wasn’t......
