Mohawk Biblio

I have spent some time now, as a captive, with the Mohawk Indians along with the wife and children of a Colonial family. It was harsh at first. We were treated badly but we were not tortured like the others. I did not learn of the name of the chief of the Indians whom I was held captive by until later on. The name of the chief as it turns out was Mountain Mover of Great Mountains, in French. While I was held captive, I learned much about the Mohawks. They are not as bad as we view them to be, it is due to the fact that we have not taken the time to understand them that we feel as if they, the Indians, are uncivilized savages. Their oral history tells that they were the first of the five nations that embraced a vision of peace. The Mohawk people are one of the original five nations that were in the Iroquois Confederacy. The others members of the confederacy were the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, and the Cayuga. Later another tribe was added into this confederacy, the Tuscarora. The......
