What is the historical significance of this work in context of your course?

In this book which I have studied written by Machiavelli in Florence 1513 during the Renaissance, at a time of upheaval where Spain had taken control of his native country of Italy. Though when the Medici was returned to power Machiavelli was buoyant that Italy and Florence would fall to a foreign country never again so he carefully constructed with all his knowledge and intellect a manual written for Medici on how to protect Italy and remain in power for future years to come. Though Machiavelli gives immense insight into the success of past glorious rulers such as Alexander, Hannibal, and even Moses who led his people out of Egypt. He seemingly bases his theory that for one to be a successful leader he must do his best to imitate his policies and mentality on that of these past iconic figures.
