War Has Taken Over
“War has taken over..”
Pearl Jam’s song, “World Wide Suicide” represents social values and cultural details that define this generation, and it should be included in an anthology of our times. It paints a picture of our country, that some may not agree with, but it is what our country and culture has become and this is a picture that needs to be presented to future generations.
In the lyrics for “World Wide Suicide” Eddie Vedder says, “Next to a handsome face./ That the president took for granted.” I think this is very representative of what the majority of the people in our country believe; Which is that our mothers, our fathers, brothers and sisters, are just pawns used for the president’s disposal in a senseless war. He is saying that these soldiers aren’t being seen as people or family but as weapons.
He also makes the point to say, “….war has taken over” ,which it really has since 9/11. I am sure many people would argue that war hasn’t......
