A Comparitive Analysis Of North American Health Care Systems
There are many differences between the health care systems of Canada and the United States. These differences can have a tremendous impact on the people that live under their jurisdiction. Though there exist numerous subtleties and facets to the two systems, they can, for the most part, be compared in several generalized categories. I will compare them in the areas of government involvement, access and eligibility of citizens to services, financial details, and pharmaceutical drugs. I will then attempt to determine which, if either of the two systems is the superior one.
Both the governments of Canada and the United States are closely involved with the goings on of their respective health care systems. Ranging from legislation to funding, they play a key role. In the 1960s Canada and the US had very similar systems for health care, but they gradually diverged. Canada’s system migrated to a more socialized, single-payer style of universal care.
