There is a problem with social security in America today. Many say that it is a drain on our economy and it won’t be around in 50 years, but the issue at hand is whether social security is a viable source of income for senior citizens receiving nothing else. On one side there are the many senior citizens of the U.S. while on the other there are the presidential candidates which have to make some kind of change in order to sustain the budget with the soon to come influx of baby boomers.
The majority of senior citizens that have spoken out have been very clear that the amount they receive is not nearly enough to sustain a healthy lifestyle especially with the rising costs of medical care and prescription drugs. A study done by UCLA has show that even the cost of a home can be more expensive at times than the income from social security alone, “The study shows that the nearly two out of three seniors in California who survive solely on Social Security benefits......
