Love Theory
The Sexual Response Cycle is a Masters and Johnson’s model of sexual response, which consists of four stages or phases. The very first phase of the sexual response cycle for males and females is the “excitement” phase. In regard to the males, Vasocongestion during the excitement phase can cause erection in as soon as 3 to 8 seconds after sexual stimulation begins. Vasocongestion is the engorgement of blood vessels with blood, which causes the genitals and breasts to swell during sexual arousal. The scrotal skin also thickens, becoming less baggy according to the chapter. The testes also increase in size and become elevated. In this “excitement” phase, females have a similar sexual reaction as males do. Female excitement is characterized by vaginal lubrication, and the excitement could start 10 to 30 seconds after sexual stimulation begins.
