Is History Fiction gives the reader a deeper insight of how to view and record history and how to grasp an understanding of what the interpretations of history are. Chapter four, titled ‘History, science and art’ discusses ideas on how historians in the past have recorded history and whether it should be considered as a science or an art. The idea of history being categorised as a science began with the views of the father of modern professional history, Leopold von Ranke. His views since then received a diverse reception from historians. Chapter 5, ‘Has History Meaning?’ looks at what historians define as history.
