The Chosen-Movie
Both boys illustrate how difficult and complicated it can be to maintain a friendship in the mist of apposing views of religion represented by their fathers. The baseball game and the controversy over the state of Israel can be viewed as two conflicting moments within the movie.
The baseball game denotes a dichotomy of values between a more secular Jewish religion, represented by Reuven, to one that is more orthodox in nature, represented by Danny. Reuven and this teammates appear to employ a stereotypical view of Danny and his Hasidic Jewish community. This view is also laden with prejudice in the respect that they would be wiser to do what they do best, pray, rather than play baseball. Nevertheless, it is not long before Reuven comes to understand that it is not favorable to generalize and simplify others, as in the case of Danny, as such generalizations proved incorrect.
