From Rags To Ragga

Throughout school, students are taught of the history of the Americas. Less is taught about our neighboring South America, yet unknown knowledge is stowed within its vast multicultural lands. We tend to neglect, even, the central areas of America and most importantly, the Caribbean. The Caribbean was once known as the single most important supplier for boosting the American economy. Sugar cane and oil were huge commodities within these areas, but little was sought from the people of these regions. Cultures from Africa, India, Spain and France were brought to the Caribbean by various needs, to support these commodities. A new vast culture was created after years of settlement and integration. The spawn of this new culture provided America with exotic foods, new languages and most importantly, plenty of new genres of music. Amongst them was Soca rhythm, subsets of Salsa-Meringue, and Afro-Cuban; if not the most important, the most highly regarded was the genre of Reggae.
